Hen Quarter Dublin Serves Southern Comfort Brunch
Recently, I visited the newly opened Hen Quarter Dublin, which is located in Bridge Park, right in the heart of downtown Dublin off the beautiful Scioto Mile. As a lover of all things brunch, I was happy to experience their new brunch menu which offers sophisticated southern comfort cuisine coupled with refreshing handcrafted cocktails.
Every time I visit Bridge Park, I’m so impressed by how much development has taken place in the past year. There are so many new restaurants and businesses popping up all the time. And to be honest, Bridge Park Dublin is easily becoming one of my favorites areas to visit in Columbus.
First, it’s 10 minutes away from my apartment, parking is easy to come by, and everything is within walking distance. I love it. It literally gives you the downtown feel without all the hassle. As a millennial that is starting to become less enthused with crowded bars and sticky dance floors, Bridge Park is it.
The CEO, Ron Jordan, shares my sentiments as well. A father of four girls and a millennial himself, he started Hen Quarter Dublin from a concept he saw in Washington D.C. that he wanted to bring to Columbus and enhance.
Although his inspiration was drawn from all over the Deep South, he says he pulled most of his flavor profiles from New Orleans, LA. With a fan favorite being the cornbread, it’s served in a cast iron skillet with a sorghum glaze, whipped butter, and chives on top, and is best shared with friends and offers rich, southern comfort in every bite.
Not only did I enjoy the appetizers, but the main dish did not disappoint. For savory breakfast eaters, I highly recommend the chicken and waffles. The fried chicken was perfectly crisp and seasoned and was served with a vanilla waffle and a side of bourbon maple syrup. Also, I had a bite of the hot chicken sandwich with sweet cider coleslaw — and oh my goodness. I will definitely be ordering that on my next visit.
Honestly, all the dishes looked phenomenal on the menu, but definitely a bit pricey, which is what I’d inform those who I’d make the recommendation too. The Hen Quarter Dublin is perfect for any special occasion such as a celebrating a birthday or anniversary. “I wanted to create a restaurant that when you walk in it’s a great time right away,” said Ron. “We want people to come here for every experience you can possibly think of – we want you to experience life in our restaurant.”
Last, it goes without saying that I love boogie-ass, handmade cocktails. I love the artistry that goes into making them, the signature notes of bitters and simple syrups used, as well as the craftsmanship and science used to balance multiple flavor notes to develop the perfect sipping experience.
The house mixologist, Tyler Plymale, curated the entire cocktail menu using a homemade list of syrups, tonics, bitters, and fresh squeezed juices. As a tip, Plymale highly recommends smelling the aroma of your cocktail before sipping. My favorite brunch cocktail on their menu (as well as the owner’s) is “A Lovely Day,” which has a tequila base with warm notes of lavender and citrus.
Also, other popular cocktails include: “Love & Happiness” as well as the New York-inspired cocktail, “Empire State of Mind.” You may have noticed a theme here. Yes, the drink names are listed after popular songs. Ron wanted to provide fun, yet spirit-forward cocktails on his menu and I truly believe he did just that. Also, for my wine and whiskey/bourbon connoisseurs, the restaurant has more than 900+ bottles of wine in their inventory as well as 90+ whiskeys and bourbons available.
Blogger Review: 4.5 Stars!
From the beautiful plating of the food, to the modern aesthetics and professional wait staff, welcome to the new wave of how boogie Millennials brunch. Thank you, Hen Quarter Dublin, for the invitation to experience your new brunch menu. The food, southern hospitality, and handcrafted cocktails were top notch.
